Gems & Socketing

Gems are a socketing system layered on top of your gear. Slot a gem into an item and it grants a permanent bonus — on-hit procs, sustain, elemental damage, utility and more. Gems are the one deliberately uncapped power axis on Halera: there are no soft/hard caps holding them back, so their strength is balanced by how hard they are to earn, a strict 3-socket limit per item, and the proc numbers themselves.

How sockets work

• Bring gear and a gem to the Socket Bench to socket, extract, or remove gems.
• Each item can hold up to 3 sockets. Different gems stack their effects.
• One of each gem, once: a given gem can be socketed into an item only once, and only one copy of that gem can be equipped at a time across your whole set. You can't stack the same gem on multiple pieces to multiply its effect — the bench refuses a duplicate socket (“This item already has that gem socketed”), and a piece carrying a gem you already have equipped won't go into the slot until you remove the other one. Different gems still stack freely, so build breadth — not duplicates — is the path to power.
• Socketing is non-destructive at the bench — you can extract a gem back out (though it costs), so gear isn't bricked.
• Locked items are frozen: a locked item can't have its gems changed, and can't be sold on the market or to NPCs until you unlock it.

How you get gems

• Drops — where each gem comes from:
  • Tougher monsters (Hero-tier and up) — only monsters of real strength drop gems, and the chance scales with how tough the monster is, climbing to around 0.5% at demon-tier and beyond. Trash and easily-farmed low-level monsters drop nothing — gems are meant to be a find, not a bulk grind.
  • Bosses — the best source: a boss can drop several high-end gems at once.
  • Corruption Isles — its monsters roll the high-end gem pool and can drop several at once.
  • Waystone tier 3+ monsters — a chance at a single high-end gem.
  The strongest gem families come from bosses, the Corruption Isles, and deep Waystone tiers, so that is where to hunt once you want more than the basics.
• Gem Power: the upgrade currency. Kills can grant Gem Power, and the Treasure Goblin mechanic can spawn fleeing goblins / treasure chests that pay out Gem Power and gold.
• Upgrading: feed Gem Power to raise a gem from tier 1 → 6. Each tier is stronger and costs progressively more.

Ornaments — collectible Seals

Equipping and leveling gems unlocks cosmetic Seals — 59 in total. They're a collection/prestige layer on top of the gem grind.
